42 days without charge

If you ask people if they want terrorists locked up, then everyone, including me, would say ‘you bet, throw away the key’. But the argument isn’t about terrorists; it’s about government exerting control over ordinary people. Politicians in power cannot be trusted with your liberties. Look, we’ve had people detained under the terrorism act for heckling the Prime Minister; Councils have snooped on parents under the same act; fuel protesters have been threatened with terrorist detention; ordinary people taking photographs in public have had their cameras seized; and if people did finally come onto the streets in protest over prices, then terrorist detention could well be invoked.
