Below are the key policy areas 1 to 7 of 21 that UKpopdems will address
in the first term of office. At the end are shown the key elements of
how the party's government programme will be funded.
UKpopdems believe in real democracy where ordinary Britons have more
power. This means that, with a UKpopdems government, your voice on policy
will be listened to.
1. Hospitals and health:
Reduce hospital waiting times by allowing nurses, surgeons and doctors
to make decisions on treatment and care, using private and foreign hospitals
when appropriate, building new local hospitals and giving better support
to home carers.
- Sure-health' employer funded programme boosts health care and NHS
funds
- Physicians, surgeons and nurses responsible for treatment and care
decisions, not local authorities
- More local pre- and post-op hospitals avoid bed blocking
- Residential support for psychiatric and behavioural disorders expanded
2. Schools:
Give our children the education they deserve by implementing a more
rounded curriculum, a longer and more supportive school day, a fully
independent exam system and stronger truancy controls.
- Schools measured on maximising individual potential
- New curriculum covering Communication, Civilisation, Self- Management
and Vocation
- Longer school day includes two meals and homework done in school
- Problems and no-shows detected early and followed up to resolution
3. Bureaucracy:
Year on year, without redundancies, systematically reduce back-line
bureaucracy and administration in public service and government funded
organisations, and increase front-line resources.
- Up to 2,000,000 back-line bureaucrats, administrators and managers
released
- 1,000,000 additional and much needed front-line jobs created
- Pay rates increased for uniformed staff accepting strict job regulations
- Most contracted out services and staff brought in house
4. Crime:
Dramatically reduce violent crime by investing massively in community
policing and by removing offenders from society through first-time prison
sentencing.
- 250,000 extra community police on the street
- Tougher and earlier sentencing for violent crimes
- Rapid prison building and resourcing
- Weapons gradually removed from society
5. Environment:
Work for a cleaner environment in balance with the needs of the people,
and build a multi-billion pound fund to help those overseas most affected
by global warming.
- Impact of global warming on Britain clearly understood
- National vote on renewable energy, nuclear energy and green taxes
- Climate change fund accumulated at £1billion per year for
those in need.
- Britain moves towards energy self-sufficiency
6. Immigration:
Control immigration and the influx of foreign workers through the introduction
of 'easy-visas'. Protect and welcome asylum seekers but manage absorption
into society.
- 'Easy visa' for all foreign nationals covering work, study and tourism
- Asylum seekers in camps until communities ready for assimilation
- Foreign workers protected by ensuring employers take responsibility
for health, pensions and accommodation
7. Defence and foreign policy:
Properly protect our borders, our country and those living in fear
in the world by doubling front-line forces, investing in the best arms
and technology and working with our allies to act sooner when danger
threatens.
- 150,000 additional front line forces recruited.
- Better pay, better supported and better equipped
- 50,000 immigration/customs officers and intelligence agents recruited
for Britain's home defence
- Pre-approved African peace-keeping force to act in emergency
