Below are the key policy areas 8 to 14 of 21 that UKpopdems will address
in the first term of office. At the end are shown the key elements of
how the party's government programme will be funded.
UKpopdems believe in real democracy where ordinary Britons have more
power. This means that, with a UKpopdems government, your voice on policy
will be listened to.
8. Transport:
Aim for safe, fast, reliable and clean travel at fair cost by investing
in a new building programme for safer roads, new subsidised bus routes
and fairer, more ring fenced road taxes.
- An end to motorist persecution
- Motoring taxes ring-fenced. 50% on roads, 15% on public transport,
15% on emergency services and 20% on environmental improvement
- Road tax incorporated into petrol taxes, tax disc discontinued and
insurance disc introduced
9. Taxation:
Implement a fairer taxation system by introducing a new tax for the
very highest earners that will go to the poorest in society, and by
giving British people the power to decide on raising or reducing taxes
and by how much.
- 'Very High Earners Tax' (VHET) introduced that can be totally mitigated
by investing in Britain and the British people
- National vote on increasing or reducing taxation before end of first
term
- Corporation tax eliminated and employment taxes reduced
- Employer based 'safe-pensions' and 'sure-health' schemes introduced
10. Pensions:
Ensure everyone has a safe, protected, earnings based pension that
supports them in retirement. Remove taxes and costs from private sector
companies to enable this to happen.
- 'Safe-pensions' introduced which give a 50% earnings based protected
pension
- Safe-pensions' gradually implemented in the public sector as public
and private sector benefits are standardised
- Retirement age kept at 65 but individual variation allowed
- Minimum pension benefit is 50% of pertaining minimum wage
11. Work:
Implement a 'right to work' for every Briton on the unemployment register
seeking work. In the public sector ensure 80% are in front-line jobs.
Encourage this policy in the private sector with tax benefits.
- Everyone who needs employment will have real and valuable work
- Tax breaks given to encourage 'right to work' in the private sector
- 'Safe-pensions' and 'sure-health' makes sure employees are protected
- Small independents and start-ups compete on the same terms as big
corporations
12. Democracy:
Give the people powers to decide on new policies, bills rejected by
the Lords and social issues that affect daily lives. Encourage and support
people to get together to propose new law and change or abolish existing
law.
- People's votes decide social issues and new legislation
- 'Interest groups' of between 2 to 5 million set up to recommend
policy
- House of Lords majority elected and people vote on rejected bills
13. Politics:
Eliminate the potential of politicians to abuse power by setting up
a strong independent watchdog and ensuring all reviews are also independent.
Depoliticise the public sector and repeal any customs that set politicians
above the people they serve.
- Strong Parliamentary watchdog installed and all reviews determined
independently
- To eliminate spin, all statements of fact and progress are made
by Civil Servants instead of politicians
- Election timing is a standard five year period
14. Britain:
Promote world class achievements in Sport, Engineering, Science, Medicine,
Art and Entertainment by investing in research and training. Ensure
British history, culture and beliefs are taught in all schools and as
part of new harder to obtain citizenship.
- Individuals and teams recognised for world-beating performance and
achievement
- 'The peoples' views sought on political correctness, equality, discrimination,
health and safety and other issues
- Britain's history, culture and beliefs more visible and understood
- The Union Flag flown on most public buildings and by the British
people
