Goals & Policy Detail - Work
BACK
TO MAIN GOALS & POLICY DETAIL
This is what you say:
We want rights and protection in work and employment opportunities
for those seeking work.
What's wrong with things as they are?
Up to 4 million
people want to work in Britain but cannot get work
Unemployment
hot spots have created poverty, discontent and benefit dependency
Dominant corporations
are making it hard for independent businesses to compete
Foreign workers
are often abused and get lost in the system
Business fraud
is hard to detect and prosecute
UKpopdems will make sure that Britons have a right to work and are
protected in work, so we'll:
Implement
a 'right to work' policy so all Britons can find employment if they
need work.
In the public
sector, make sure at least 80% are front-line jobs
Ensure 'right
to work' also applies to all organisations that seek government funding
Encourage
'right to work' in the private sector through allowances where employees
are taken directly from the long term unemployed or disabled register
Re-focus job
centres for this new role and ensure training is geared to individual
need
Ensure redundancy
payments, after a probationary period, will keep an ex-employee for
at least three months
Register all
businesses in order to reduce fraud and protect foreign workers. Utilise
community officers to check and liaise
Encourage
whistle-blowing for fraudulent, corrupt and dangerously incompetent
performance
Develop a
process so that dominant businesses, small independents and start-ups
can compete on the same terms
Implement
special allowances for the most successful British companies returning
very high revenues for the country
What will this do for the British People?
People who
need a job but have difficulty finding employment will be helped to
get one
The vast majority
of new public sector jobs will be in the front-line
Business red
tape and regulation will be reduced but employees and customers will
be at least as well protected as now
Community
officers will liaise closely with the community to detect business fraud
and protect foreign workers
Small independent
companies, especially retailers, will be able to compete more favourably
with dominant players
Britain's
most successful companies that contribute most to wealth at home will
be rewarded
Companion notes to the policy
Employment
is the sure route to wealth, independence and self-respect for the individual
and for Britain. Unemployment can often lead to poverty, dependency
and humiliation -and provides the foundation for crime and disaffection.
'Right to
Work' provides real jobs for people who need them and provides appropriate
basic skills training. There is plenty to do in the front-line of the
public sector alone. This is a gradual process, but it includes jobs
for people who have low basic skills and are discriminated against.
An early focus will be ex-offenders, mobile disabled, the young unemployed,
and those disadvantaged or discriminated against.
We need to
encourage whistle-blowers if the community is to be protected against
fraud, corruption and those who are a danger to others. Compulsively
false whistle-blowing will be detected and discouraged.
Methods to
support small independents may include reductions in overheads and favourable
purchasing terms.
