Goals & Policy Detail - Politics
BACK
TO MAIN GOALS & POLICY DETAIL
This is what you say:
We want politicians once again to be deserving of our respect.
What's wrong with things as they are?
Politicians
are held in very low regard
Spin has become
a substitute for action
The results
of Government inquiries are not believed
Politicians
themselves are not believed
UKpopdems will make sure that MPs' abuses of power are curtailed, so
we'll:
Make sure
all inquiries and reviews are independent
Set up an
independent watchdog to monitor MPs' behaviour
Take election
timing out of the hands of politicians and make it a standard period
Depoliticise
the civil service and other government funded bodies
Ensure statements
of fact and progress are made by civil servants
Review and
repeal any acts or customs which set politicians above the people they
serve
What will this do for the British People?
You will
know that all reviews and inquiries are truly independent
MPs' behaviour
will be independently and strictly monitored
Statements
of fact will be made by civil servants and will be verifiable
The ability
of MPs to manipulate situations will be reduced
The 'rights'
of politicians will become more like those of the people they serve
Companion notes to the policy
It is hoped
the Head of State (The Monarch), in conjunction with the Privy Council,
will decide on the need for independent reviews
Again, it
is hoped that the parliamentary watchdog will be appointed by the Head
of State to ensure full independence
Elections
will probably be held five yearly in the Spring, but this will need
consensus
The civil
service, police and other bodies have lost their independence. This
will be restored in order that complete trust can be maintained in their
statements
Statements
of fact and progress will be made by Civil Servants. Politicians will
be limited to statements of intent. This will eliminate spin and, even
worse, the possibility of lies.
Under the
UK popular democrats, politicians will be servants of the people, not
masters as we see in politicians today. Any exclusiveness which sets
MPs, and indeed public servants, above the people they serve, will be
identified and gradually removed.
