Goals & Policy Detail - Environment
BACK TO MAIN GOALS &
POLICY DETAIL
This is what you say:
We want solutions to protect the earth without damaging our lifestyles.
What's wrong with things as they are?
The earth
is warming but the impact is unclear
Difficult
questions need to be answered about fossil fuels and renewable energy
Pollution
is a serious concern
It's not clear
how much people are willing to give up in reducing global warming
Global trade
seems at odds with local needs
Waste is a
major issue.
UKpopdems will make sure that a cleaner environment balances with
the needs of the people, so we'll:
Make Britain's
current greenhouse gas emissions visible so everyone knows what and
where the problems are
Do the same
with world emissions so everyone knows where Britain stands in relation
to others
Work with
acknowledged authorities to clearly understand the impact of global
warming on Britain and the rest of the world.
Set up a fund
growing at half a billion pounds a year to help those people most affected
by global warming when the time comes
Ask the people
how much they are willing to give up, or do differently, in reducing
Britain's emissions
Fund additional
research, investment and resources to increase recycling and reduce
chemical waste and pollution
Invite the
peoples' views on renewable and nuclear energy generation
Set a programme
in place to gradually localise fresh food and reduce live animal movements
What will this do for the British People?
Your views
and wishes on environmental issues will be canvassed and listened to
Existing confusion
over environmental facts and opinions will be made clear
Public and
government funded bodies will increasingly get their food from local
sources
In the future,
when the full effects of global warming are felt, Britain will be better
placed to help those in need
You'll know
Britain is serious about avoidable waste and pollution
Companion notes to the policy
Damaging
gases include more than CO2, and not all emissions are man-made. Making
total emissions visible and comparing against world emissions will help
decision making
The fund is
to support poorer nations that do not have the resources to handle sea
level rises or climate change related disasters.
Making gas
emissions visible will enable people to understand the effect of specific
actions they might want to take.
Safeguarding
Britain's energy sources for the future is vital and renewables versus
fossil and nuclear is a key factor
In localising
food supplies, we'll start with hospitals and schools
